Why...

Hello sweet girl, and anyone else wishing to join us on our journey. We are a family of five. You are my only daughter. I feel that there are so many things a girl needs to learn from her mom. When push comes to shove, I am not a good communicator when it comes to topics that weigh heavy on my heart. You are one of those topics, sweetie. I am a much better written communicator. So I have decided to try to document much of what I think will be important for you as you develop into a teen, a young adult and a woman. Plus, I think you kids tend to block out my voice from time to time (can't imagine why???). This way, you have all of the nuggets of knowledge you will need and it will be here forever. You will be able to refer back to it as often as you like.

"What brought this on?" you may ask. Well, your dad and I had a great conversation the other morning. I was enlightened to a few things. First of all, I have a hard time with self-concept and seeing myself for how others see me...not comparing myself to figures in the media others in my life that seem to have it all together. Because of this, I have a hard time enjoying many parts of my life. I am self-conscious most times and this prevents me from doing many fun things in life, as well as truly "being-in-the-moment" with my family. By not loving myself, I am not loving you all the way I could be. This is not what I want at all. I am getting in the way of my own happiness, and that can also affect your happiness. This is just plain crumby!

You may be asking yourself "Why on earth do I need to know this, mom?" Or "TMI". You are right. You know me...TMI is my middle name. However, this is very important...are you listening sweet girl? I don't want you to ever feel like this. You are an amazing person. You are just the right mix of funny and serious, athletic and girly, stubborn and congenial (maybe a little more stubborn...which will work to your advantage if you work with it). I love you so much. This journey is my journey, but I want to document it for you...so you won't have to go through some of my same struggles. Sprinkled throughout this blog I hope to add in many topics that you need reference too...friends, brothers, dads, husbands, jobs, school, college, and much much more. I am excited to pour my heart out to you sweet girl.
